The Bertschi Group specialises in the transport of products for the chemical industry. Professionalism and precision at the highest level are essential for the company
Since its foundation, the family-run logistics company Bertschi, headquartered in Dürrenäsch, Switzerland, has developed into a globally established, leading transport company. Their focus is on global logistics for the chemical industry, especially for liquid products.
This service requires highly specialised equipment and qualified employees. As in any transport business, reliability is a key factor. Now, the first installation of a solar kit on one of the company’s semi-trailers ensures that this is further increased. At the same time, it has proven to save fuel.
A pioneering company from day one
Hans Bertschi founded his company Bertschi Dürrenäsch in 1956. In the beginning, the company concentrated on transporting steel and cork. Only a few years later, the first tanker was added, making it possible to transport glue. After several attempts, Hans Bertschi succeeded in convincing the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) of the advantages of loading lorries onto trains. The first transport from Basel to Lugano in 1964 marked the birth of transalpine combined transport from Germany to Italy.
Due to the positive development of the company, Hans brought his brother Rolf on board. Together they established Bertschi AG. Over the next few years, the brothers were involved in the development of many pioneering transport solutions, such as specially designed tippers that enabled semi-trailers and curtainsiders to be loaded onto trains for transalpine transport through Switzerland. Today, the company employs 3,210 people in 38 countries and has a fleet of around 1,000 vehicles.

Always with an open mind to new things
As the company’s long and exciting history shows, an enthusiasm for innovation and developing new solutions is practically part of its DNA. This includes moving towards greener options. Energy-saving solutions such as heat pumps are used at its Swiss headquarters, while charging points for electric cars and bicycles allow employees to commute in a carbon-neutral way.
The constant search for new ways and better solutions has now led to the installation of the first Green Energy solar panels.
Mathias Richter from Green Energy accompanied the installation and met Bertschi’s technical manager, Ueli Bruder: ‘We are always looking for intelligent solutions to increase our operational reliability and provide the best service to our customers. These products do just that. The extended battery life means fewer visits to the workshop. In addition, we can achieve significant fuel savings,’ explains Ueli Bruder. He adds: ‘Once the test phase is over, we plan to install more kits.
We congratulate Bertschi on their first installations.
