FROTA AZUL: one of the main players in the Portuguese coach market

FROTA AZUL is leading the Portuguese Coach Market with a Commitment to Sustainability, Comfort, and Global Standards of Excellence

FROTA AZUL, part of Barraqueiro Transportes, s.a., is located in Olival Basto, north of Lisbon, Portugal. The company was founded in 1981 to meet the needs of the Barraqueiro Group as it expanded its tourism activities.

The aim is to operate a fleet of high quality coaches. In this way, the company has secured its position as a preferred supplier to leading Portuguese and foreign tour operators and travel agencies. The company’s quest for excellence has now led to a green initiative: the installation of solar panels on the five Mercedes coaches.

Focus on safety and comfort

With a fleet of 88 modern coaches, FROTA AZUL strives to provide the highest quality of service with a focus on customer comfort and safety. For this reason, all the company’s employees have undergone specialised training adapted to their different functions and responsibilities.

One of the best coach companies in the world

With decades of experience, FROTA AZUL has not only become a major player in the Portuguese coach market, but is now part of the Global Passenger Network, an association that brings together the best bus and coach companies in the world.

A seal of quality awarded because the company guarantees the delivery of modern and environmentally friendly buses, all equipped with the most modern equipment available on the market today.

In 2013, the company obtained ISO certification for both quality and environmental management. A corporate strategy that has now led to a collaboration between the company and Green Energy to install solar panels on the company’s coaches.

Companies working together for the benefit of the customer

Ricardo Goncalves of Green Energy has been involved in the installation of 960Wp solar panels on the company’s Mercedes Tourismo coaches. The installation will ensure significant fuel savings (up to 1,400 litres of fuel per bus per year) as the driver does not need to leave the engine idling during breaks, etc. Another benefit is that the solar panels provide power to the battery, which means greater reliability and, all things being equal, longer battery life. This is in line with the company’s desire to offer a service characterised by reliability and environmental savings.
